It is finally time! The snow is falling and before our eyes the Pacific Northwest is transforming into the winter wonderland that makes our sport so much fun.  We had a good time during the off season this year, showing old sleds at the Centeral WA Ag Museum Poineer Power Show, Cool Desert Nights, the WSSA Powersports Expo, and the Spokane Winter Knights Expo We also have some great events planned all over Washington and in Montana too this winter. But first, let’s recap things.

This was our first year at the Central Washington Agricultural Museum’s Pioneer Power Show, and we had a great time with them! If you haven’t been to it, the CWAM in Union Gap is certainly worth the trip and plan to spend a couple days to see everything there. The Pioneer Power Show in August brought old engines, tractors, and equipment from all over the country together. The museum provided a great spot to show our sleds and with all the other events going on (and the homemade ice cream!) we stayed busy all weekend. A big thanks to Kent , Carol and John for having us. We can’t wait to return again next year!

It is hard to believe, but this was our 10th showing at the Cool Desert Nights car show.  As in the years past we had several folks who walked through our display telling us it is one of the reasons why they come to the show.  This year we heard it mentioned even more and I have to admit it was a really good display.  We had a nice mix of antique restored, vintage original, vintage race, vintage restored, and even a non-vintage snowmobile on display.  To make the day even better the weather was perfect; warm, and sunny all day.

What a great and busy weekend it was at the Washington State Snowmobile Association (WSSA) Snowmobile & Power Sports Expo/Swap Meet! This was our 22nd year. The time went by fast. We had our display up and running well before it was time for the gates to open. The best part of the Expo was that you stopped to see our old machines, and swap riding stories when they were the hottest and newest sleds on the trails.

A special thanks goes to all those who voted for our first and second place People’s Choice Award, and Homeliest Snowmobile. Without you the awards are not possible. This year you decided first place winner for Best of Show was Dick Feil for his beautifully restored 1965 Polaris Sno Traveler Voyager. Coming in a second was Ray Bergstresser with his 1972 Sno*Jet 440 Thunder Jet. These sleds were skillfully restored.  Then there was the winner for the Homeliest Snowmobile. You decided Kevin Hancock won the trophy for his 1970 Wheel Horse Safari 309. Thanks to everyone that voted to settle the contest of the best and homeliest sleds for this year’s shows.

We spent the weekend with the Vintage Snowmobiles of the Inland Northwest Snowmobile club showing our sleds at the annual Winter Knights ‘2021 Snowmobile and Power Sports Expo and Swap Meet’ at the Spokane Fairgrounds. There was a good crowd looking at our antique, vintage, and classic sleds. While there were many nice sleds at the show, including a Viking, a Blizzard, and even a Stingerette, Tom Feil was chosen for People’s Choice for his incredible display of 1974 Arctic Cat race sleds.  Congratulations Tom! With members of our Montana chapter in attendance, this event really connected the club again and got people going about the upcoming snow season!

Now let’s talk about our upcoming events for the 2021-22 snow season. There’s a lot going on between shows, rides, and racing.

December 27-28^th we will be getting together at Trout Lake for an early season test and tune for vintage and modern sleds. We will meet on Monday December 27 to ride vintage sleds, then again on Tuesday the 28th to ride our newer ones. You can ride one or both days. January 15^th we will converge on Wenatchee (location TBD base on snow conditions) for our annual Club Fun Day and BBQ. Either Greg or Tim will host an open field event and we will spend the day zooming around, eating burgers, and telling lies about how fast and reliable our old sleds are. Winterfest 2022 will be January 22-23rd in Lolo Hot Springs, MT. This is a fun event with lots of riding, timed agility trials, and even a prize or two.  The schedule of events is below.

January 30-31^st will be our Whistlin’ Jack Lodge overnight trip. We leave the Taneum Sno-Park to ride 70-ish miles to the Whistlin’ Jack Lodge where we spend the night before riding back the next day. This is a more difficult ride and your equipment needs to be ready for a long trip. If you are interested in participating, let Stephen know by emailing him at sgpstephen@gmail.com

February 12^th will be the Don Phillips Memorial Vintage Ride at Garnet Ghost Town. Where: Garnet Ghost Town Turn-off, Highway 200, Greenough, MT (GPS Coordinates 46.88891, -113.46103)  This is approximately 23 miles (45 minutes) from Missoula MT as you drive toward Ovando, MT. Meet and gather in the parking lot around 9:30 - 10:30, with the aim to have all the old iron cranked up and leaving around 10:30-11:00.  Usually smaller groups form and ride up at their own pace.  Round trip is approximately 22 miles.  Contact Tom Mullins (406) 531-0449 with questions.

Winter Bash 2022 will be February 26^th and 27^th at Lake Mary Ronan, MT. Details below:

No entry fees, no classes.  This is a fun, “run what-cha brung” event. Last year, we had enough vintage sleds that we pretty much ran as a separate group.

February 26^th and 27^th will also be the PNWVSC annual show and ride at The Last Resort in Ronald WA. This event is still in planning but will include a vintage sled show, BBQ, and timed obstacle course to test  your skills on! The next day we will head out for a vintage snowmobile ride and lunch. Details to follow.

March 5-6^th is the Bootlegger Vintage Show and Poker Run in Lincoln MT

Whew, that’s a lot of events and it doesn’t even include the Priest Lake races! It’s going to be a good season folks. Don’t forget to register your sleds and pay your WSSA dues.

Now about financing the club; we use dues money for the website, newsletters, flyers, entry fees, and promotional items.  The more paying members the club has the more money there is available to get the word out of upcoming shows and riding events.  Let your friends know who we are and what we represent.  Attached is a registration form you can hand out.  Payment is either sending a check with the completed form, or use PayPal.  It is important that we receive everyone’s support.
